Helen is a prime trout fishing area. The Chattahoochee River running through town is heavily stocked by Georgia DNR with rainbow trout, making it accessible and popular for both beginners and experienced anglers using bait or flies in spots near downtown, hotels, and in nearby streams
like Dukes Creek and Smith Creek. The Upper Chattahoochee River contains stocked and wild trout. Anglers need a valid GA fishing license and trout stamp. The best North Georgia trout fishing seasons are Spring (March -May) and Fall (October-November), when water temperatures are prime for trout and air temperatures are comfortable for anglers.
