Montauk State Trout Park November 7-11, 2025
Montauk State Trout Park is located 22 miles south of Salem, Missouri. It is part of the Current River system which is fed by a natural spring releasing 50,000 GPM. It is the home of a rainbow fish hatchery.
There is fishing for everyone in the family. Small stream out of the hatchery, trout lake, Current River all stocked with larger than average Rainbow Trout.
The Park has a motel (Montauk Lodge shown above), restaurant, cabins and camping facilities.
The Park provides dry fly, nymph and streamer fishing in highest quality.
In November, the park is a delayed harvest area (catch and release) only.
It does allow spin fishing as well as fly fishing.
Weather can vary from warm to very cold. Be prepared for both.
The lodge restaurant opens at 8:00am and closes at 6:00pm. It is not open after 2:00pm on Sundays.
Yearly or daily licenses are available. Daily is $8/day plus Trout Permit for an additional $10.
Yearly license is $49 plus $10 Trout Permit. The Trout Permit is good for one year.
Flies that the club has found successful include:
Egg Patterns - All Colors

The most popular fishing flies for Montauk are marabou jigs, rubber worms, the Kruse mohair leech, Zug bugs, wooly buggers, and Glo-bugs, but more natural Western-style flies work as well. As is the case with most of the trout parks, sight fishing tends to be the secret weapon. Sight fishing (casting small lures or flies to specific fish in an attempt to drift the bait to the fish's nose) will often produce more fish than all other methods, regardless of bait used.
