Upper Raven Fork is the best brook trout fishing in the Smokies. Very remote and rugged, in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee NC. The UPPER RAVEN FORK is very remote, and the most rugged watershed in the National Park. Spared by logging companies of years ago, trees more than 700-years-old tower overhead, and fish have rarely seen a fly or angler. The best brook trout fishing in the Smokies is upstream of the Enloe Creek junction and the steel truss bridge. Steep plunge pools, small water falls and deep holes are the normal fare. Raven Fork looks like no other stream in the Smokies. Huge boulders and ultra clear water are full of wary brook trout that will smash your flies with reckless abandon, only if you stay hidden from sight.
Raven Fork can be fished as a day trip but is best enjoyed by camping at one of several backcountry campsites for a multi-day adventure.
Trail maps are availavle at the GSMNP Visitor Centers.
Be aware of the weather forecast before fishing here; flash flooding is common because of the steep backcountry terrain. Never fish this upper stretch alone, and always let someone know where you are going.
